Fine Art Photograph of a mossy forest in Olympic National Park, Washington.

Mossy Forest

Olympic National Park, Washington

This was a composition that was stuck in my imagination ever since I started planning my trip to Washington. I have found over the years that it is very challenging to create a photograph that comes close to the feeling I get when I'm alone in a forest, surrounded by towering trees. I needed to create a photograph that would adequately communicate this experience.

This particular forest was found on my way to Sol Duc Falls and I was particularly impressed by the thick moss that seemed to cover everything. The light bouncing around under the canopy of trees was a greenish gold color and gave everything a living warm glow.

After searching along a trail through the dense trees, I saw this grouping of trees that were backlit by the diffused sunlight coming from the clouds above. I loved the way the soft-but-directional light highlighted the roots and the edges of some of the trees. I made several slight changes to my composition until I felt that I perfectly captured the feeling that I was looking for.

Matted Print

Matted Print

Archival pigment print, produced and finished by the artist in his Texas studio. Each print is part of a limited edition and is signed and numbered by the artist.

The photograph is printed on Metallic Pearl paper by Hahnemühle, a German fine-art paper manufacturer. It is then dry-mounted in an archival mat that is hand-cut to fit the image.

Matted prints are ready to be placed directly into a frame of the same size.

About Sizes

The size listed refers to the outer mat size. Mat borders range from approximately 2"–5", depending on the selected size.

For example, a 16x20 Matted Print fits into a standard 16x20 frame and has a viewable image size of roughly 12x16.

Edition Information

Each size of Matted Print is issued as its own limited edition. Once an edition is complete, prints are no longer produced in that size.

The mat is signed on the lower right and numbered on the lower left. The print is also signed and numbered beneath the mat should you choose to re-mat the photograph in the future.

Great care is taken to ensure my fine art prints show the colors and tones that are intended. Due to variances of color and tone in displays, what you see on your monitor, tablet, or phone may be somewhat different than the colors and tones of the print.

Regular production time for a typical order is about a week. If I expect it to take longer, I will let you know.

While the above options will suit the majority of my collector's needs, please contact me if you need to customize your photograph further, whether it be size, frame, or mount.
