I normally don't shoot alone, but this morning I woke up very early and left Abbie and the kids at the hotel so I could get into Joshua Tree National Park, hike a short trail, and find some compositions before sunrise. I barely made it in time and the arch that I was interested in wasn't well suited for what I was looking for. Fortunately, I was on the shady side of a hill, so I had a few more minutes of soft light to experiment with some ideas before the sun came blasting away the subtlety.
This area was full of huge granite outcrops that I climbed up, in, and all around. It was good to be alone with my thoughts and a few times during my hiking and rock-scrambling, I took a moment to just look around and enjoy the complete silence while admiring the magnitude of the boulders and rock formations I had become lost in. It was just me, God, and His creation.
The (almost) third-quarter moon had already reached its highest elevation and was starting to sink toward the west. This was the best time of the month to capture a photograph like this because of the moon's elevation and its position in the sky in relation to the rising sun. This was one of several compositions I captured as I "chased" the moon on its way to the horizon that morning.
Note: On your screen, you may see gradients in the sky due to compression. The print will have a perfectly smooth gradient.

Great care is taken to ensure my fine art prints show the colors and tones that are intended. Due to variances of color and tone in displays, what you see on your monitor, tablet, or phone may be somewhat different than the colors and tones of the print.
Regular production time for a typical order is about a week. If I expect it to take longer, I will let you know.
While the above options will suit the majority of my collector's needs, please contact me if you need to customize your photograph further, whether it be size, frame, or mount.
